One American reality show that has managed to bring to our screens all kinds of absurd people suffering from both actual problems related to their mental well-being or a serious case of pampering and privilege is the show, Dr. Phil.
The show has been airing since 2002 and has put out twenty-one seasons. While we are sure you must already be familiar with the show, let us tell you more about the series in case you happen to be living under a rock.
The series follows a basic format where every episode brings to our screen Dr. Phil himself, along with cases of people who might be in serious need of psychological help or just a reality check.

Usually, the person under the spotlight is accompanied by close family and friends who readily share anecdotes and provide proof of the individual’s existing problems.
The show is a creation of Oprah Winfrey, host of The Oprah Winfrey Show and a talented actress and author who has been in the business for quite some time.
Dr. Phil is hosted by Phil McGraw, who with a background in clinical and forensic psychology, has gained the trust of the audience and those who feature on the show with hopes of getting real advice from the expert.
The reality series has managed to address a variety of issues ranging from financial problems to dysfunctional planning to rebellious teens and so much more.
While it is insightful to know about the different kinds of people who live around us, many from the field of psychology, along with the common people, have taken to their social media to criticize Dr. Phil’s ways of trying to help people.
He has been called unethical and irresponsible with the kind of advice that he gives being called ridiculously simple and ineffective. Despite the criticisms, the show prevailed for well over twenty-two years and has finally announced its soon-approaching end.

This is what happened to Destoni on the show
Back in 2019, when the show, Dr. Phil was airing its seventeenth season, we got to meet through the one hundred and first episode titled, Destoni’s Drama: Will She Accept Help? where we met Destoni. Only fourteen years old at the time, this teenage daughter had her mother losing her mind because of her anger issues.
She is one of the most memorable guests of the show and had everybody curious to know how things eventually turned out for her. Her mother, Melissa, came on the show desperately wanting Dr. Phil to help and guide her daughter and even revealed that she was worried that her daughter’s nature would get her locked behind bars, or worse, killed.
The situation was grave enough for her family members to be scared to be around her and live in the same house as her. It was during the span of the episode that the mother and daughter duo finally seemed to have talked about things they probably did not address back at home.
Destoni revealed on the show that both the loss of her father at a young age and her mother’s lack of attention and interest in her had triggered her anger problems, probably as a way of getting the attention she was unable to receive otherwise.
The episode helped her address the underlying issues she had with her mother, and Dr. Phill managed to convince her to get professional help considering people around her were even scared to be near her, fearing for their safety.
This happened in 2019, and once again in 2022, the show decided to get back in touch with the angry teen to find out what exactly she was up to now. When we first met her, Destoni had immense internal turmoil along with troubles with her family.
It was one of the episodes that hit home for many, which may be why so many from the audience, including Dr. Phil himself, were curious to know about Destoni’s progress, if any. In 2020, the show revealed updates about the young girl, and we were assured that Destoni had to be admitted to a treatment center where she was also living.
After discussing more about her anger issues, Destoni told Phil that she had been taking classes and undergoing therapy for anger management and to keep it under control.
Not much was revealed about the facility itself or how exactly had Destoni’s condition improved, but fans were happy to know that the girl, now almost eighteen years old, had found a safe space.
While the episode did try to villainize her throughout its runtime, making her issues seem like a problem instead of something arising out of failed parenting and the absence of a father, we are happy to know that Destoni is walking the path of recovery and is healing well.
