What in the world is a Baby Sprinkle? I literally had no idea what it was until recently when my cousin Chelsea found out she was pregnant for the second time. She recently had a baby girl just a little over two years ago and is now having another daughter. Of course, my mom and I were extremely excited and wanted to celebrate the new arrival. The thing is, my cousin already has the big items, crib, stroller, car seat, etc., so there was no need for a huge baby shower. Apparently, unbeknownst to me, there is a party referred to as a Baby Sprinkle for this very situation. I was baffled!

I first want to start by saying how jealous I am of this generation. I mean seriously, since the invention of Pinterest, party ideas and celebrations have been taken to a whole new level. It’s just not fair. Why did I have to get married and have a baby pre-Pinterest?! I’m always looking for new ways to entertain and I swear I can find something new almostevery day on Pinterest. The entertainer in me loves it! Plus my friends think I’m so creative when in actuality I have just hijacked someone else’s idea…Shhhhhh!!!😬

Now that I got that off my chest let’s get back to the Baby Sprinkle. By definition, a Baby Sprinkle is a lower-key gathering to welcome a second, or third, or more, addition to a family. Instead of an extravagant event where a first-time mom is showered with gifts, it’s a modest, casual gathering where Mom gets “sprinkled” with just the necessities. Pretty cool, right?!

Once we knew exactly what a Baby Sprinkle was, my mom and I got to planning. I have to say, this party is right up my alley. It was simple, easy and stress-free.

Here are my Tips for Throwing a Baby Sprinkle

Make sure you specify that it’s a Baby Sprinkle and not a Shower on the invitation.

Since this is a newer celebration, some people (like me!!!) are not aware of what a Baby Sprinkle actually is. The wording you put inside the invitation is extremely important because it explains what the celebration is all about to your guests.

Here is a good example:

Big Sister Alexis has plenty to share.

It’s just a sprinkle to show that we care.

Not much is needed. Just the basics will do.

Like diapers, wipes, gift cards, and an outfit or two!

  • Check with the parents-to-be to see what items they are in need of. This will help when wording the invitation. Gift cards are good because they can use them for anything they might need.👍

Schedule the party at an off-time and for a shorter duration.

In keeping with the idea that a Baby Sprinkle is more of a casual event, it’s perfectly okay for you to have the party for just a couple of hours during a non-typical time. What do I mean by this? For Chelsea’s Sprinkle, we hosted it from 2 pm to 4 pm on a Saturday afternoon. It was after lunch and before dinner which saved us from having to serve a full meal. Plus, two hours was just the right amount of time for a few games and opening gifts. Keep it sweet and simple!

Keep the menu simple.

With the Baby Sprinkle being from 2 pm – 4 pm, we were able to pick a simple menu that didn’t include a full meal. We figured the guests would have already eaten lunch and would still want to eat dinner after the Sprinkle.

What we did for Chelsea’s Sprinkle was an all-dessert menu. We took the word “sprinkle” literally and had a table of desserts covered with sprinkles! We dipped pretzels, pineapple, Oreos, donut holes, vanilla wafers, marshmallows and rice crispy treats in white chocolate and then covered them with sprinkles. We served regular donuts with sprinkles, cupcakes with sprinkles, popcorn with sprinkles and even a cheesecake ball covered in sprinkles. If I don’t see another sprinkle for a very long time I’d be totally okay with that! I think there are still some hiding under the cabinets in my kitchen.

We served punch, coffee, and tea for beverages. Simple, simple, simple!

If dessert isn’t your thing you could always just stick with appetizers. The idea is to not have to worry about putting together a full-blown meal!

Keep the decorations simple too.

The Sprinkle Theme is very popular these days and you can find the tableware in pretty much any party store or online. This is the design we used.

I created a simple banner with a sprinkle. I also made floor to ceiling streamers of sprinkles. I did this by taking ribbon and hot gluing square pieces of cardstock a few inches apart from top to bottom. We hung the streamers with thumbtacks from the ceiling but I’m sure you can find a better way of doing it without creating holes in your ceiling.😜

My mom did an amazing job with the centerpieces and guest gifts.

Side note: My mom will tell you that she is the least crafty person you will ever meet so if she can make these you know they are easy! Promise.

For the centerpieces, she took a clear vase, painted the outside with Modge Podge, and then dipped it in sprinkles. She allowed it to dry and then sprayed the vases with hairspray to keep the sprinkles intact. She then purchased fake flowers from the Dollar Tree to put inside the vases.

For the guest gifts, she took a very small votive candle holder and followed the same process she did to cover the vases. She added a candle to the center and placed the holder in a clear cellophane bag. I helped her by creating a cute label that she strung on a ribbon to tie up the bags. They really came out adorable!

Play games, or don’t. It’s up to you!

We are a family that loves to play games so of course, it was only fitting that we had a couple of games for Chelsea’s Sprinkle. This is a personal preference. Just know that with the two-hour time frame you won’t have much time to play a ton of games. We did two games, Bingo and Diaper Pong, and that was perfect. Add in opening the gifts, time to eat, some socializing, and your two hours are up.

Make sure the people that matter the most are having a good time.

Making the Parents-To-Be feel loved and celebrated is truly the meaning behind a Baby Sprinkle or a Shower for that matter. As long as they are having a good time you can consider your party a success! It made my mom and me happy to see my cousin and her family enjoying themselves at the party.
